The Foundation wishes to acknowledge several individuals whose assistance has been of great import but, due to the timing of that help, was not acknowledged in the liner notes as it should have been: Dennis Schmidt, Bill Taylor, Mark Hudson, Courtney Bresky, Craig McKenzie, Peter Banta, Noah Cole, Mark Toscano, and Jeremy Goodwin. There are two ways to create original music: You can lock
yourself
in a closet and not listen to anything, and whatever comes out will be something that sounds like nothing else; or you can immerse yourself in every traditional way of making music, and then what comes out of you is your own personal, unique blend of the best." |
Though it features 23 acts covering the music of Phish, this is no typical tribute:
Available online from Amazon, CDBaby.com, and Homegrown Music Network now, as well as digitally through iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, and nearly a dozen other services offering digitual distribution! We hope you enjoy the release, and sincerely appreciate your support for music education for children! (If you already have the album, and don't know anyone for whom it would make a good stocking stuffer, you can still pledge support through a Paypal donation.)
We celebrated the album's release with a sold-out charity concert July 12th. The headliner was Merl Saunders and His Funky Friends, with special guests Martin Fierro (from Zero) and Ron Graham and Skip Mesquite (from the Tower of Power). In addition to opening act Ten Ton Chicken, there was also special guest Radim Zenkl, a phenomenol Chzekoslovakian mandolin player, between the two acts, plus presentations by Foundation Vice President Charlie Dirksen and Funding Director Kristen Godard, who presented a plaque of thanks to Merl.
The event was held at the Great American Music Hall, where Phish played their first San Francisco show, and
benefitted the Community Music Center of San Francisco and San Francisco Performances' Arts Education Program, and raised a total of over $5,000 for the groups. (A ticket auction was also held through the Mimi Fishman Foundation for the benefit of the Boulder County Safehouse and the Evangelical Children's Home.
